How to use the reseller fee calculator
- Enter the sold price and the shipping the buyer pays.
- Enter what you paid for the item and your real shipping cost (label and packaging).
- Add the buyer's sales tax rate: some platforms charge fees on the tax as well.
- Open Fee settings to adjust any platform's rates, your Amazon FBA fee or your Shopify plan.
The results list the seven platforms from the highest profit to the lowest, with each one's fees and margin.
2026 seller fees at a glance (US)
| Platform | Seller fees | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Poshmark | $2.95 under $15; 20% from $15 | item price (buyer pays the label) |
| Mercari | 10% | item price + shipping |
| Depop | 3.3% + $0.45 (no selling fee on most US listings) | price + shipping + tax |
| eBay | 13.6% + $0.40 per order (most categories) | price + shipping + tax |
| Etsy | $0.20 listing + 6.5% + 3% + $0.25 | 6.5% on price + shipping; 3% on total incl. tax |
| Amazon FBA | 15% referral (most categories) + FBA fee by size | item price |
| Shopify (Basic) | 2.9% + $0.30 per card payment + monthly plan | order total |
Rates checked in October 2026 from public fee guides. Platforms change fees often, especially Mercari and Depop, so every rate is editable in the calculator.
Same item, seven platforms
$40 jacket, buyer pays $8 shipping, 7% sales tax, $12 cost, $7.50 to ship:
| Platform | Fees | Profit |
|---|---|---|
| Depop | $2.14 | $26.36 |
| Shopify | $2.57 | $25.93 |
| Mercari | $4.80 | $23.70 |
| Etsy | $5.11 | $23.39 |
| eBay | $7.38 | $21.12 |
| Poshmark | $8.00 | $20.00 |
| Amazon FBA | $10.25 | $17.75 |
$12 item, $5 shipping, $3 cost, $4.50 to ship: Depop still leads ($8.45), but the gaps shrink, and Amazon FBA's fixed fulfillment fee leaves only about $2.95. Cheap items are where fixed fees hurt most; Poshmark's $2.95 flat fee and Depop's $0.45 matter more than their percentages.
Fees aren't the whole story
The platform with the lowest fees isn't always the best place to sell:
- Buyers and speed. eBay and Amazon have far more buyers; Poshmark and Depop are strongest for fashion; Etsy for vintage and handmade. An item that sells in a week on eBay can beat a higher payout that sits for six months elsewhere. Track it with the sell-through rate calculator.
- Shipping. Poshmark's flat prepaid label is simple and buyer-paid; on other platforms your label cost comes out of your pocket.
- Offers and discounts. Poshmark and Mercari buyers expect offers; build room into your price.
- Shopify needs traffic. Your own store has the lowest per-sale fees, but you pay the monthly plan and have to bring every buyer yourself.
- Amazon FBA suits new, branded or bundled products in volume, not one-off thrift finds.
Getting the inputs right
- Item cost: what you paid, plus cleaning or repairs.
- Shipping cost: the real label and the mailer or box.
- Fee settings: if you have an eBay Store, use the eBay fee calculator with your Store rate; for Etsy Offsite Ads, use the Etsy fee calculator.
- Amazon: find your product's exact FBA fee in Seller Central.
Then set a minimum markup for sourcing with the markup calculator: many resellers only buy what they can sell for three times the price.
Know your profit across every platform
Comparing one item is easy. Knowing which platform actually makes you the most money across a month of sales is harder. The full method, including returns, mileage and unsold stock, is in our guide on how to calculate reseller profit, and our guides to eBay fees and Etsy fees go deeper on the two biggest marketplaces.
Flip is a reseller profit tracker with editable fee presets for eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop and Etsy. It works out each sale's true profit and compares platforms side by side: fees, margin, days to sell and sell-through rate. Till helps when your shop grows into a small business. Both have a free demo with sample data.
