- The short version
Etsy's fees are a lot smaller than they feel — until you add them up across a month. Twenty cents here, 6.5% there, 3% plus a quarter on top, and suddenly a "$35 sale" is a $30 deposit. Then a sale comes through an Offsite Ad and another 15% disappears.
This guide explains every Etsy seller fee for 2026: what each one is, what it's charged on, and what it does to a real order. You'll see breakdowns for a cheap sticker, a mid-priced print, a digital download and a $950 ring, and finish with a simple way to price so the fees never eat your profit.

The three fees on every Etsy order
For a US seller, every order pays three fees:
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | each listing, for four months or until it sells |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | item price + shipping + gift wrap |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | the full order total, including sales tax |
Rates checked in October 2026. Sellers in other countries pay different processing rates (and in some countries a small regulatory operating fee), and Etsy does change fees, so compare with the Fees & Payments page in your shop.
Listing fee: $0.20
You pay $0.20 to publish a listing. It lasts four months or until the item sells. Two details matter:
- Multi-quantity listings: if a listing has more than one in stock, Etsy charges another $0.20 to renew it after each sale.
- Auto-renew: when a listing expires and renews automatically, that's another $0.20.
For most products that's tiny. For a $3 item, it's almost 7% of the price on its own.
Transaction fee: 6.5%
The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price plus the shipping you charge (and gift wrapping, if you offer it). It doesn't apply to the sales tax.
Payment processing: 3% + $0.25
Etsy Payments charges 3% of the order total plus $0.25 per order. Unlike the transaction fee, the total here includes sales tax that Etsy collects for the buyer's state.
A real order, step by step
You sell an art print for $28 with $6 shipping. The buyer's sales tax is 7%, so they pay $36.38 in total.
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee (6.5% × $34) | $2.21 |
| Payment processing (3% × $36.38 + $0.25) | $1.34 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.75 |
| Print, sleeve and backing board | − $7.00 |
| Shipping label | − $5.20 |
| Your profit | $18.05 |
Etsy's fees are about 11% of the $34 you charged, and your margin is 53%. That's a healthy product.
When fees get big
Offsite Ads: the biggest Etsy fee
Etsy advertises listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, you pay an Offsite Ads fee:
- 15% if your shop made less than $10,000 in the past 12 months (you can opt out),
- 12% if your shop made $10,000 or more (required),
- capped at $100 per order.
The same art print sold through an Offsite Ad at 15% pays another $5.10. Total fees jump to $8.85, about 26% of the order, and your profit falls from $18.05 to $12.95.
You can't choose which sales come from ads, so price with them in mind. If a third of your sales come from Offsite Ads, your average fee is much closer to 15% than 11%.
High-priced items and the $100 cap
A $950 ring with free shipping, 7% tax and a 12% Offsite Ad:
- transaction fee: $61.75
- payment processing: $30.75
- Offsite Ads: 12% would be $114, but it's capped at $100
- total fees: $192.69, about 20%
That cap is a real benefit for expensive work: above about $833 at 12% (or $667 at 15%), the ad fee stops growing.
Cheap items
A $6 sticker with $1.50 shipping:
- listing $0.20 + transaction $0.49 + processing $0.49 = $1.18 in fees,
- about 16% of the order.
The fixed $0.20 and $0.25 weigh heavily on small orders. Sell the stickers as a pack of three for $16 and the fees drop to $2.15, about 12%, while the shipping cost per sticker falls too.
Digital downloads
A $9 printable planner: fees are $1.32 (about 15%), but there's no material or shipping cost, so you keep almost $7.70 of every sale. That's why digital products are so popular on Etsy, and why they're so competitive.
Other Etsy costs to know
- Etsy Ads (on-site ads): a daily budget you set; you pay per click.
- Shipping labels bought through Etsy: cheaper than retail, charged to your account.
- Currency conversion: 2.5% if your listing currency differs from your bank account's.
- Etsy Plus: an optional monthly subscription with listing credits and ad credits.
- Pattern by Etsy: an optional website with its own monthly fee.
- Deposit and refund fees: if you refund an order, Etsy refunds part of its fees, but not all of them.
How to price for Etsy fees
The simplest rule: never price from the materials alone. Use this order:
- Full cost per item: materials, packaging, the shipping label you pay, and your labor at an hourly rate you'd accept.
- Fees: about 11% for a normal sale, 25% or more if it comes from an Offsite Ad.
- Margin: what's left for the business after all of that. Many handmade sellers aim for 30–50%.
Price = (cost + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − fee % − target margin)
The Etsy fee calculator does this for you: enter your cost and the margin you want, and it shows the price. For the print above, a 35% margin needs an item price of about $16.90 plus the $6 shipping, so $28 leaves room for ads and discounts. The markup calculator is handy for quick cost-to-price checks, and the profit margin calculator works for any platform.
Free shipping and Etsy fees
Etsy's search favors shops that offer free shipping on US orders of $35 or more. Moving shipping into the price doesn't change your fees: you pay 6.5% on the shipping either way. What changes is how the price looks to buyers. If you switch to free shipping, add your full average shipping cost to the item price, not a guess.
Know if the shop is really making money
One order is easy to work out. A month of orders, with refunds, Etsy Ads, bulk supplies and a couple of Offsite Ad sales, is where profit quietly disappears. Two numbers keep you honest:
- Monthly profit after everything: sales minus fees, ads, materials, shipping and subscriptions.
- Break-even sales: how many orders a month cover your fixed costs. The break-even calculator works it out.

Till is a small business profit planner for makers and small shops. It splits each sale into costs, tax set-aside and your share, and shows how much you can safely pay yourself each month. If you resell vintage or supplies across Etsy, eBay and Poshmark, Flip tracks each item's fees and true profit by platform. Both have a free demo with sample data you can open in your browser.

Etsy fees and taxes
Etsy fees, ads, labels, materials and packaging are business expenses. Etsy sends a Form 1099-K once your payments pass the IRS reporting threshold, but you owe tax on profit, not on sales. As a sole proprietor you'll also pay self-employment tax on that profit; the self-employment tax calculator estimates what to set aside each month.
Etsy vs eBay fees
Etsy's percentage fees are lower than eBay's 13.6%, but Etsy adds a listing fee, a separate processing fee and Offsite Ads. For a normal handmade or vintage sale without ads, Etsy usually costs less. With an Offsite Ad, it can cost more. Our guide to eBay fees in 2026 explains the other side, and the eBay fee calculator lets you compare the same item on both.
The short version
- Every order: $0.20 listing + 6.5% of price and shipping + 3% of the total + $0.25.
- That's roughly 10–12% of a normal order, more on cheap items.
- Offsite Ads add 12–15%, capped at $100 per order.
- Bundle small items, price from your full cost, and plan for ad sales.
- Track monthly profit, not just orders.
